What is a CNC Alloy Wheels Lathe?

Alloy wheels are among the first vehicle parts affected by accidents and poor road conditions. Additionally, after prolonged use, it is very likely that the varnish on the rim surface will peel and brake dust will damage the rim surface. Especially, finding an exact replacement for heavily damaged rims is very difficult and costly. In this case, the fastest, cost-effective, and definitive solution is to repair the rim.

Before the rim is repaired, the damage on the rim's surface is assessed, and correction and welding processes are performed according to the extent of the damage. Subsequently, restoring the rim to its original appearance is the most necessary process for the vehicle owner. Ultimately, the rim is one of the first parts that make the vehicle look good. This is where the CNC Rim Processing Machine comes into play.

Traditional universal lathes are machines that process completely flat rims. However, there are very few rims in this flat form. Generally, since the surface of these rims is shaped, it is not possible to turn the rims on universal lathes. CNC Rim Turning Machines transfer the surface of the rim shape to the computer system with an accuracy of 0.002 mm thanks to very precise ruby probes. The measurement time is between 1 and 4 minutes.

This form is filtered through the internal software of the machine. After the reading process, 0.2 mm of material is removed from the surface with a diamond tip. The surface obtained at the end of the CNC Rim Turning process is shiny and does not fall short of factory output surface quality. If this amount is not sufficient, material removal continues at 0.1 mm or 0.2 mm. It should be considered whether the rim has been repaired before during the material removal process.

The repaired rim, plate, customer name, and the camera included in the machine are also photographed and recorded in the machine's memory.
